The History Of Astrology: Why Star Signs Are Important

Stars are all around the universe.  Some people wish on falling stars hoping their wishes would be granted.  Others just stare at the great abyss that contains these stars, wondering how they were made and what makes them shine so beautifully.  However, did you know that in the past, stars offer more than just an attraction? In ancient times, the stars were the map of the people directing them to their destination.  These were also the calendars of the past as they served as guides to the time for planting and harvesting.

People looked up to the stars so much that studies were done to learn more about them.  This study is known as astrology.  It started with the Greeks and then later, this was continued by the Chinese, who also got interested in the stars.  After a few years, a philosopher named Plato theorized many things about the stars but after the invention of the telescope, all of these were disproved by Galilei, who was also a philosopher and scientist.

This, however, did not stop the existence of astrology.  The practice prevailed in other regions of the world and through the existence of the religious sector tried to control it, it never vanished. The belief that stars plays an important role in the lives of people remained.  It was through this belief that, even up to this day, the practice of astrology and the faith in horoscopes and star signs, triumphed.

Star signs are what most people commonly refer to as the zodiac signs.  They are representative symbols for different personalities born in a corresponding month and day in a calendar year.  There are twelve star signs in all and each of these symbolizes a constellation formed by the stars. Examples of which include Libra, Sagittarius, Aries, Leo, Cancer, Gemini, Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn, Virgo, Taurus, and Scorpio.  For every person born, there is always a corresponding star sign that tells about who they are as a person, what type of personality they have, and what traits are unique to them whether positive or negative.  Knowledge about these signs can guide one’s interaction and help a person deal with those around him as long as he knows what the star sign of that person is.

Star signs also from the basis for horoscope readings which are so prevalent nowadays in the internet, newspapers, and tabloids.  Horoscope readings are daily or weekly readings predicting what each person with a particular star sign will experience or encounter for that day or week. These also share with the person their ruling planets, lucky colors, lucky numbers, and more.

Compared to numerology, star signs are not that easy to analyze as they are read by astrologers based on the position of the stars and planets.  Therefore, they are universal but they are not permanent.  So one should just continue updating oneself regarding their star signs and accept the fact that planetary movements could cause changes either today or anytime in the future.
