The Five of Swords

The Five of Swords has been termed previously as “The Lord of Defeat”. It has a connection with the ideas that are associated with Mars, in astrology, in its malefic aspects – failure, defeat, anxiety and depression. In a Tarot Spread, it often indicates that some trouble maker is working against you.

The Five of Swords or the Lord of Defeat card, as it name suggests, is not a welcome card. It may indicate that you are in for some disappointment or grief.

Our life is full of struggle and competition. There are always periods of ups and downs. So this card is likely to come up at one time or another. What, however, matters is our response to this card. If we feel disheartened and disappointed, we will be heading for our defeat and ruin.

If, on the other hand, we try to understand that setbacks are natural incidents in life and that we cannot be winners all the times, this card, like every other failure, can prove to be a stepping stone to success.
